Mastering DStv Stream Setup on Smart TVs

Learn how to connect a Smart TV to the internet, install and configure DStv Stream, and authenticate your account using the mobile app linking method.

This hands-on course walks learners through the complete process of setting up DStv Stream on a Smart TV. You will learn how to verify and configure television network connectivity, access the streaming app to retrieve device activation codes, and use a mobile phone to securely pair your subscription with your TV.

Section 1: Smart TV Network Configuration & App Preparation

Verify TV network connectivity and generate an activation code using DStv Stream.

Lesson 1.1: Configuring Smart TV Wireless Network

Before attempting to stream video or activate third-party streaming apps on a Smart TV, the TV must maintain a reliable internet connection. On many modern smart televisions, the top-right corner displays network status icons indicating whether Ethernet or Wi-Fi is active. If the television shows disconnected, navigate using the TV remote to the Settings menu, open the Network submenu, scan for your local Wi-Fi network SSID, and type in your security key. Once authenticated, verify that the connection status confirms successful connection before exiting.

Practical work

  1. Turn on your Smart TV and inspect the top-right corner indicator to check network connectivity.
  2. Navigate to Settings -> Network, choose your Wi-Fi SSID, enter your network password, and confirm 'Connected successfully'.

Lesson 1.2: Launching DStv Stream & Retrieving the Code

With an active internet connection, locate the DStv Stream app on the TV's home dashboard or app ribbon. If the application is missing, install it from the TV's application store. Upon launching the DStv Stream application, the TV requests device authentication and displays a unique alphanumeric activation code alongside instructions directing users to dstv.stream/tv or mobile app linking.

Practical work

  1. Open the DStv Stream application on your Smart TV.
  2. Wait for the application to finish loading and write down the pairing code displayed on the screen.

Section 2: Mobile App Pairing & Device Activation

Authenticate using your MultiChoice ID and submit the linking code via the mobile application.

Lesson 2.1: Installing and Signing in to DStv Mobile

To authenticate your TV without using a sluggish on-screen television keyboard, DStv allows pairing through the mobile application. Locate 'DStv Stream' in the Google Play Store or Apple App Store and install or update the app. Open the application and log in with your registered MultiChoice ID email address or mobile phone number and account password. If you do not yet have an account, you must create a MultiChoice ID prior to signing in.

Practical work

  1. Search for 'DStv Stream' on your mobile app store and download/update it.
  2. Open the app and sign in with your MultiChoice ID credentials.

Lesson 2.2: Profile Selection and Code Entry

Once logged in to the mobile application, select an existing viewer profile or create a new profile by tapping 'Create' and assigning a custom name. Select your profile to enter the content library. To link your TV, tap the 'More' button in the bottom navigation bar, select 'Settings', and choose 'Log in to TV'. Type the exact code shown on your Smart TV screen into the input field and confirm to complete pairing.
