Lesson 1.1: Accessing Message Info via Context Bar
- Menu variations in WhatsApp
- Long-press message selection
- Top action bar 'i' icon
In WhatsApp group conversations, keeping track of who has seen your announcements or replies is essential. When you send a message in a group, WhatsApp tracks delivery and read receipts individually for every member of the group. While previous versions or certain contexts allowed users to access 'Info' via an overflow three-dot menu, you can always inspect a message directly. By pressing and holding (long pressing) your sent message, the message is highlighted and an action bar appears across the top of your screen. On this bar, tap the circled 'i' symbol to open the 'Message info' screen directly.
Practical work
- Open any active WhatsApp group where you have previously sent a text or media message.
- Long-press your sent message to highlight it.
- Identify the circled 'i' icon on the top action bar and tap it.
