Kumi- Action Aid Kumi cluster has launched a campaign on climate change and better environment conservation across the ten selected schools in the sub county of Ceele, Kanapa and Ongino Town council all in Kumi District. The schools are involved into debate on climate change.
Andrew Onapoto the communications Officer at Action Aid Uganda said that the campaign is geared towards distributing one million tree seedlings to the schools and farmers across the district
According to Onapito learners are key in fighting the negative effects of climate change; he added that leaders and stakeholders should act upon global warming by planting trees.
Sarah Adong , the District Education Officer Kumi appreciated action aid for the support .meanwhile she also called upon the communities to refrain from grazing animals in schools compounds in order to success the campaign of restoring environment.
Adong revealed that negative attitude towards tree planting affects learning citing that due to lack of enough trees cover in some schools such as Onyakele, ojie , Omerein , and Obosai strong winds blew classrooms roofs because trees are limited that would help fight heavy winds.
Meanwhile Sam Akol , the vice chairperson LCV Kumi says the district is on the plan to come up with bi-laws and ordinances aiming at regulating members of the public from deforestation .
Akol appealed learners to embrace afforestation and fighting against cutting down trees
