Kotido- As one way to foster peace and education in the great Lakes region, the government and Catholic Church have launched the construction of Karamoja peace and Technology University in Kotido district.
The university project is being spearheaded by Kotido catholic Diocese led by Rt. rev Dominic Eibu the bishop of Kotido diocese and the catholic lawyer’s society international.
The university when completed will offer courses in computer science and applied technology, oil, gas and metals industry and education.

while other course will be peace and security studies , environment ,agriculture and veterinary medicine , health science business and entrepreneurship and law among other .
Vice president Rtd. Maj Jessica Alupo Epel and woman MP Katakwi district represented He President Yoweri Museveni at lunch as it was attended by various dignitaries such as politicians ,religious leaders the academia and community from all spheres of life.
In her remarks ,the Vice president said the establishment of Karamoja Peace and technology university will drive and lead process of providing quality transformation and inspiring education to produce practical and skilled professionals who will greatly contribute to the process of social economic transformation and development of great lakes region.
She added that government want Karamoja sub region to be apart and partial of the rest of the regions of Uganda without those isolated incidences of cattle resulting.
She further embraced technical education because it offers skill which make readily available for work in the job market.
Alupo who urged people of Karamoja to take children to school to ensure their children make bigger population in the university.
Bishop Eibu who was applauded by Vice president for donating 2000 acres of prime land towards establishment of university said the university is going to be solid because its being constructed in the heart of Karamoja sub region and shall play a trans-formative role in the region.
He added tasking government to support the initiative to ensure it becomes success .he asked for corporation amongst members and stakeholders.
Severino Twinobusingye the president of catholic layers society international appealed to all young and old to come and learn together and acquire knowledge and skills that will transform their lives for sustainable growth.
He said that in faculty of peace and security studies, the first student should be warriors and Karachunas.
The university will serve communities of across the international borders of Kenya, Somalia, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Tanzania Rwanda, Burundi and the Democratic republic of Congo.
