Katakwi Farmers Reap Big with new brown Cow Peas variety

Farmers across the seven sub counties that form Ngariam county including Ngariam, Akoboi, Getom, Katakwi, Okore, Palam and Katakwi town council in Katakwi district are counting profits after ripping big with the new high yielding variety of Brown cow peas recently given by Daniel Mulalu in March 2023 .



Susan Adiebo, a resident of Aleles, Akoboi Sub County says she has ripped 5 sorted basins of these new cow peas in only one piece of garden.

Another farmer Hellen Acom , 53, a resident of Central Cell , Katakwi town council revealed that she got advice from a sub county agricultural officer who tipped her to spray a small portion hence she got her 3 basins.

She was impressed that the harvest of three clean basins out of a one garden when sold will help her pay school fees for her children.



The Private Secretary in charge of political mobilization and Affairs in the office of the President, Dan Mulalu says the donation was aimed at helping farmers to enhance food at households as well as for commercial purposes.

He said in order to improve the economic status of households in Ngariam he is willing to connect the local farmers with a better market in Kenya ,Rwanda and Sudan countries where there is much demand.

This brown cow Peas is highly demanded and it’s sold ranging from 15,000 to 20,000 Shs per Nomi.
