Katakwi-The community members of Katakwi have been called upon to secure their land by registering and titling in responsible land authorities.
Geoffrey Omolo, the LCV district chairperson is suspicious that following recent confirmed aerial survey reports of mineral deposits along the Karamoja belt, land grabbing is most likely to escalate. he foresees that more land grabbing cases in feature citing an incident where 4 people surveyed katakwi land along the katakwi -Karamoja boarder.
The district chairperson noted with concern that they have learnt about less interest by the community in registering their lands or titling as one way to secure land from grabbers.
Omolo challenges the people of Katakwi and Teso to embrace titling of their land and desist from using analogue systems of securing their land
He encourages the communities in Teso to adopt titling of their land as a clan first at CCO level before subdividing as families or individuals.
Katakwi district was among the districts that the airborne geophysical survey and geological mapping of Karamoja region 2021 was conducted and it was in the sub counties of Magoro, Ngariam, Usuk, Okore and some parts of Omodoi where its approved mineral exploration.
